Phone, on speaker
Works today with the phone app: put the call on speaker and record the room. The moment you put earphones in, the phone's microphone hears only you — iOS and Android give no app access to the call audio, by design.
Mac or Windows
The desktop app taps the audio on its way to your speakers or headphones, before it reaches your ears. AirPods, a headset, a Bluetooth speaker — identical. Your mic is recorded alongside, so you are in the transcript too.
Hybrid meetings
Three people in a room, two dialled in? The mic hears the room, the tap hears the call, and everyone comes out as their own speaker. The case most tools handle worst is the one this does by default.
Two permissions, once
Mac
macOS asks for Microphone and Screen & System Audio Recording. The second one is what lets the app hear the call — it is the same permission Zoom asks for when you share your screen. If you decline it, the app still records you perfectly and warns you that it cannot hear anyone else; System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording turns it on later.
Windows
No system-audio permission exists on Windows — recording what your own PC plays is treated as your business. Only the microphone prompt appears. The download is a zip: unzip anywhere and run meetnotes.exe. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" on first run because the build is not yet signed with a Windows certificate; choose More info → Run anyway.
A recording indicator is always visible while the app is capturing, and macOS shows its own. Recording someone else's call may need their consent where you are — the app never starts on its own.
