When a voice recorder and ChatGPT
is the right answer
We sell one of these two things, so read this part sceptically — and then check it against their site, which is linked at the bottom.
Honestly: for a short one-to-one, often yes. Record it, upload it, ask for a summary, and you will get something usable for nothing. If that is your meeting, use that — we would rather say so than sell you a subscription you do not need.
You have very few meetings and no need to send anyone a formal record.
You want zero new software.
What they are better at: The DIY route costs nothing and the models underneath are extremely good. If your meetings are short, single-language and one-to-one, the honest answer is that you may not need us. Test both on the same recording — the protocol is on our challenge page — and only switch if the difference is real for your meetings.
When MeetNotes
is the right answer
Nobody is separated. A general chatbot handed an audio file does not reliably tell you which of five people said the thing — and in minutes that go to a room, attribution is most of the value.
It is a ritual you repeat every time: export, upload, prompt, re-prompt, copy out, reformat, share. Twice a week that is fine. Daily it is a job.
Long meetings fall over. An hour-plus recording is where free tools hit limits, quietly truncate, or lose the middle — and a fluent summary of a truncated transcript reads exactly like a complete one.
There is no document at the end. No PDF, no Word file, no share link, no action-item list that survives to next week.
