MoM Full Form: What MoM Means in a Meeting and in Office

24 Sep 2026

The full form of MoM is Minutes of Meeting. In an office, MoM means the short written record sent after a meeting: who attended, what was discussed, what was decided, and who will do which task by which date. When someone says "please share the MoM", they are asking for that document. In finance and sales reports, MoM can also mean Month over Month, a comparison with the previous month. The context tells you which one is meant.

What MoM means in a meeting

MoM stands for Minutes of Meeting, also called meeting minutes. It is written after the meeting, usually by one person who was present, and sent to everyone who attended and to anyone who needs to act on it.

A MoM is not a transcript. It doesn't record every sentence. It records outcomes:

  • Who was there: attendees, and sometimes who was absent.
  • What was discussed: the agenda points, a line or two each.
  • What was decided: every decision, stated plainly.
  • Action items: each task with one owner and a due date.
  • Next meeting: date and time, if one was fixed.

The word "minutes" has nothing to do with time. It comes from the Latin minuta, meaning small or brief notes. A MoM is meant to be short.

If the sentence is about a meeting ("share the MoM", "MoM attached", "who is writing the MoM?"), it is Minutes of Meeting.

A short MoM example

MINUTES OF MEETING

Meeting: Weekly vendor review
Date: 22 September, 4:00–4:45 pm
Attendees: Neha (chair), Arjun, Farah, Vikram
Written by: Farah

Discussed
- Delivery delays on the last two orders
- New packaging quote

Decisions
- Packaging quote approved as submitted
- Late-delivery penalty clause to be added to the next order

Action items
- Arjun: send revised purchase order with penalty clause, by 25 Sep
- Vikram: confirm new packaging dates with the vendor, by 26 Sep

Next meeting: 29 September, 4:00 pm

That's a complete MoM. Nobody's full speech, no "discussion went on for 20 minutes", just what the team needs to act on. For the full format with every section explained and a longer filled-in example, see our guide to the MoM format. If you just want a blank one, copy the meeting minutes template.

How "MoM" is used in office emails

Phrases you'll see and can use:

  • "Please find the MoM attached."
  • "Sharing the MoM of today's meeting for your reference."
  • "Could you please share the MoM?"
  • "Kindly go through the MoM and let me know if I have missed anything."

A good MoM email has a clear subject line ("MoM: Vendor review, 22 Sep"), the decisions and action items in the body, and an invitation to correct anything wrong. More on this in our post on the follow-up email after a meeting.

MoM vs agenda vs meeting notes vs transcript

  • Agenda: written before the meeting; lists what will be discussed.
  • MoM (minutes of meeting): written after the meeting; records decisions and action items. This is the shared, official version.
  • Meeting notes: one person's informal notes, for their own use.
  • Transcript: every word spoken, usually with speaker names. Useful for checking exact wording, but too long to circulate as the MoM.

Who writes the MoM, and when

Usually the person who called the meeting, a team member they choose, or a secretary for formal meetings. Send it the same day, while everyone still remembers what was agreed. For how long it should be, see how long meeting minutes should be; for formal boards and committees there's a separate board meeting minutes format.

The hard part is that the person writing the MoM is also supposed to take part in the meeting. MeetNotes solves that: record the meeting on your phone (or on your computer for online meetings) and when it ends you get the MoM, with a summary, decisions and action items with owners, plus a transcript with speaker names. You can edit it and share it as a PDF or Word file on WhatsApp or email. It works when the meeting mixes languages, such as Hindi and English, and every new account includes 100 free minutes.
